In last five years, over 1,800 semi-trailers have been tested in the UK that are significantly longer than the standard ones. Thanks to the results of the tests, this type of semi-trailer has been approved to run on public roads for another five years. Special licenses will also be issued to companies wishing to use this type of semi-trailer.
This 25.25 meter length was successfully tested in the Netherlands and Denmark, and in the Nordic countries it has been used for a few years in freight transport.
The savings estimated in the ten-year test are £ 33 million for UK carriers. Also, an annual accident report published in September 2016 by UK authorities, found a 70% reduction in collisions involving these longer semi-trailers compared to standard ones.
